Google has opened preorders for its new Googlebook laptop line, with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite powering the first models designed around Gemini Intelligence. Google says the devices combine a desktop experience derived from ChromeOS with Android underneath, native Android apps and direct phone connectivity.
The first Googlebooks come from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with prices starting at $899 and retail availability planned for October 4 in the United States. Qualcomm says its Snapdragon X Elite versions pair the CPU with an on-device AI NPU capable of running supported workloads locally.
The pitch is continuity: users can move files and Android apps between phone and laptop while keeping a full desktop browser and Linux tools. Googlebook is positioned as a new premium category alongside Chromebooks, not as a replacement for the education-focused machines.
The important question is whether Android integration and Gemini features create a meaningful advantage over Windows and macOS laptops. The answer will depend on app compatibility, battery life and how much of the AI experience works without a cloud connection.
